Artistes of the Week:
Hi there! Welcome to a new week and the last week of November. Here are some sweet songs that help us go out with a bang!
PDSTRN: Moshood

Bennet Obeya, professionally known as PDSTRN, pronounced as Pedestrian; born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised between Lagos and Toronto, is a rapper, singer, songwriter, fashion maven and style icon on the rise. He has recently dropped ‘Moshood’, a 7-minute story done in a Hip/Hop rap style. With a thick and piercing voice, reminiscent of the big dogs of the '90s, he brings Ja Rule and DMX into the room with him. It’s a refreshing take, a new style, as he blends his foreign influence with a mix of pidgin and Yoruba.
As the music plays lightly behind him, he shines through, telling a 7-minute story of ‘Moshood’, a figurative satire character who had a dream for big things, coming from a tough place, but had it all taken away by an unfair justice system. It’s a tale of someone whose story could easily be ours, every youth living for a dream, no matter how differently it starts. It’s police brutality, the harsh reality of the innocent youths and lives jailed unjustly, never heard of again because they couldn’t afford to be free. It’s poetry that meets greatness and depth, layers upon layers, and as he ends the music with sombre chorus vocals and a violin outro, the music and the message linger in you. Check out “Moshood”
Wav$tar: Prada Baby

Wav$tar, style icon and budding star artiste, recently dropped his new track ‘Prada Baby’, a world of trap music and vibes. It’s music for the cool kids, where he infuses trap music with Nigerian Alte style, creating something unique. Check out ‘PRADA BABY’, a song that sets you on a wave.
Banga!, Timi Martins: One Way

Banga! A hot and verified producer in the Nigerian music verse recently dropped his debut single, ‘One Way’, last Thursday. This song, featuring Timi Martins is a glimpse into the very artistry he’s done behind the scenes. It’s an Afro rave; a mix of Afro beats with scintillating elements of EDM, set to get you hyped and possibly obliterating the dance floor. His feature with Timi Martins is a well-curated match, a perfect blend of creativity coming together. Where the vocalist holds down the forte, blessing the music with a voice oozing like honey, Banga! Cuts the beat up to perfection. Survive the week with ‘One Way’! And let the vibes remind you of the sweet weekend to come.
Deo Favr: Monster You Made

Deo Favr, formerly known as Don Rodeo, is a Nigerian singer/songwriter and occasional producer who blends rhythm, emotion and intellect. Rexently, he dropped ‘Monster You Made’, an Afro-pop song about a failed love and the residual trauma it comes with. It speaks on the kind that emotionally scars you, and makes you want to do the same to others. It’s the pain from heartbreak, experiencing a love that drove you crazy, a love that makes it hard to move on. Check out ‘Monster you Made’.
Jhozi Joker: Yemi my Lover

Jhozi joker, is an effortlessly rising star in the Nigerian music industry, hailing from Lagos, Ikorodu. Armed with a strong determination to share his message to the world and connect with a wider audience, Jhozi is back with another single “Yemi my Lover”, a scintillating Afrobeats single, that touches on the uncertainty of love, dealing with it. With the term ‘Yemi my lover’ he drops a witty allusion to an old Yoruba film with the same name, a catch-on phrase that has now become a trope, punchline in Nigerian music. ‘Yemi my lover’ just like the movie, tells its own story and it’s backed by Jhozi’s moving vocals, easy yet so sweet that it’s worth a second, third and fourth glance. He gives us this smoky feel in the background, while his voice stands strong at the center, piercing through and holding the forte. This simple, blue, love song will have you furiously pressing play, over and over again. Make sure to check it out!
