Artistes of the Week:
Hi there! Welcome to another week in September and another round of Artistes of the week. As always, we’re here to spark up your day with some beautiful and freshly released music. Let’s dive in :
Qing Madi: Scumbag
Qing Madi, with the voice of a star, has been making big waves, silently. She previously released, ‘EGO’, a hit single for the popular, animated American series ‘Valorant, and she’s back with another beauty, voice even more refined, like a sweet pot of honey. Qing Madi takes R&B through the pretty lens of Afrobeats on ‘Scumbag’, the vocals fiery and unmatched, the beat and rhythmic flow, a steady killer on every turn. Her growth is truly incredible to witness, and her song Scumbag is about being addicted to losers, scumbags. It’s that post-reflection moment where you realize your taste in men might be questionable. It’s the wondering in frustration, how one keeps attracting the worst, constantly giving chances to the wrong people. The music holds a lovely flow that will keep you bopping your head with a stank face because it’s simply nasty good. Check out ‘Scumbag’, you also might get addicted.
Rybeena ft Joeboy: Adunni
Subtle Fuji drums meet Afro pop in the coolest way on this new single, ‘Adunni’ by Rybeena featuring Joeboy. Rybeena is a Nigerian music artist and a new force in the Afrobeats scene, with an innovative style that has successfully captured audiences. This artist, has carved out his unique space within the street hop community, his music a reflection of the vibrancy of urban Nigerian life. On his latest single, ‘Adunni’, he sings admirably of his baby, his Adunni, vocals flowing in gratitude and inviting us all ‘to see the work of God in his baby’. The name ‘Adunni’ itself means a person that is sweet to have, or a person that brings sweetness, and every part of this is represented in the music; the name is intentional. Joeboy flows perfectly with the music, like a lovely cheesecake; he adds his own flavour to the music, making us too a partaker in the joy of Adunni. The song is pure sweetness, from lyrics to tone, energy, and music. It’s blissful, too sweet like Jedi Jedi, and we can’t get enough. Check out ‘Adunni’!
Straffiti: Komole
Straffiti, is a multi-faceted artist and a creative director of the creative collective, Thirstyworldwide. Straffiti’s music, like his brands, is a fusion of cultures and influences, inviting all to a bold, innovative, and unapologetic worldview. He has worked and collaborated with a long list of African influences worldwide, from Pretty biy D-O, BNXN, Kida Kudz, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, and many more. His new ‘Komole’ is a fiery mix of Afrobeats and UK Hip-hop music. That song reflects that sweet diaspora sound, a mix of cultural influences, where Yoruba and African music are represented and expressed in that niche UK swag. Straffiti is bound to draw worldwide love with this one, so make sure to check out ‘Komole’.
Josiah Bassey: My woman
In a world of sweet vocalists, true music lovers, and true talents, Josiah Bassey not only manages to stand out quite clearly but also comes in as a refreshing sound to the world of music. Josiah Bassey is a multi-genre artist and producer whose music can best be described as free-flowing. It constantly travels from a laid-back chill tone to an up-tempo. He has collaborated with notable artists like H.E.R., Tauren Wells, Mystro, and many more. His new music, ‘My Woman, is a proper Afro R&B in true fashion, and where to begin? From the heavenly vocals, to the sweet, tiny bits of Amapiano drums on the rhythm, it’s a total trip. Love feels real and true, desire feels honest, when he touches the mic. Completely saccharine, addictive, and bound to leave a smile trailing on your lips, check out ‘My Woman’ by Josiah Bassey, and if by chance you’re on the search for some music to play at your wedding, your proposals, or to win a heart, dare I say, his discography is a good place to start!
