Artists of the Week: July (Part 1)

Hi there! Come say hello to July with us and our fresh batch of new releases and lovely artists we enjoyed throughout the week. You know the drill, so let’s dive in!

Mellissa: Catch me if U can

A picture of Mellissa

Mellissa, releases a contemporary Afro-pop sound, “Catch me if U can”, mixing a bit of dancehall reggae with a sultry yet light and energetic Afrobeats rhythm. This rising talent from Accra’s dynamic African music scene is making waves with her distinctive “Afro sexy” sound. As a fresh and exciting voice in music, she has already collaborated with notable artists like Amaarae, BOJ, and Ajebutter22. On her new single, she gives us a sexy Guitar, a killer bassline. Soft and tiny vocals, coupled with a dutty whine, and that;’s all you need to know. Her vocals are tiny high-pitched in a rather ethereal and nostalgic way. So catch Mellissa if U can, on her hot new single!

The Majeek: Ladies

A picture of The Majeek

Desmond Momoh, known by his stage name The Majeek, is a Nigerian musician who has carved out a niche for himself in the music industry with his unique blend of Afro sounds, dance-hall, and R&B. Born and raised in Nigeria. Desmond initially found his passion for music through producing and writing songs. However, he soon grew restless within this role and realizing that there’s more than one way to be an artist, he transitioned into singing, feeling the urge to express his own stories and experiences through music. He has just dropped ‘Ladies’, a groovy track for the ladies, a soft Amapiano and Makosa groove. Make sure to check it out!

TMZY: Mind

A picture of TMZY

TMZY brings Afro-drill to the streets and it’s a powerful combo we never knew we needed!  With his refreshing and unique take on street music, connected with his foreign inspiration from UK Drill and yard music, TMZY truly stands out. Ever since his breakout hit single ‘Money over love’, this unique music style has changed the game for good. A strong pioneer of Yoruba music, culture, and vibes, he infuses this side of himself into his creative dissertation. ‘Mind’ is the kind of song you can listen to and relate to alone or vibe with your friends. Or maybe when you need to set your mind to work. It is uplifting, motivating, and even with its overall chill energy, something is inspiring about it. Check out ‘Mind’ and stay connected to TMZY’s raw and earnest expression.

Goodgirl LA: Good girl

A picture of Goodgirl LA

One thing about GoodGirl LA is that she’s got vocals for days. A voice that stuns and turns heads, she is power, softness, and depth, and with an unmatched ability to sound strong, passionate, and ethereal. ‘Good girl’ is an R&B, Afro-fusion song about this good girl gone rogue. Transformed by struggles faced and the inability to go back, because she’s gone too deep, Goodgirl LA goes full-on self-expression with this one. She’s ready to do as she likes, to stay sharp, because the world is in her hands and up for grabs. This song is more than just rebelling, it's about transformation and gaining that superior confidence! ‘Good girl’ is an evolution of her style, her journey in the music world, and how she’s ready to take up even more space. Check out, ‘Good girl’!

255 & Minz: Sha na

A picture of 255

It’s nothing but enjoyment and soft amapiano vibes on ‘Sha na’, so tell a friend to tell a friend that the next party anthem is here, thanks to Minz and 255. 255 (pronounced: twofifty-five), is a band of three brothers located in the world of Afro fusion. While the two younger siblings Charlie and Guy produce the music, Louis, the internationally awarded film director, adds his visual dimension through music videos and storytelling to the band and their art. Minz on the other hand remains one of the most iconic voices to emerge from the Nigerian music industry, an eclectic producer himself but majorly a singer and songwriter, he builds his universe for himself and his fans, refusing to conform to the norms of “Industry standard”. Minz lends his voice to 255’s music project ‘Sha na’ and the song has a simple mission; to get you all the way turnt up! So abide and check it out now!
