Artists of the Week:

Hi there! Welcome to October! Today we have some exciting new releases to set you up for an amazing week.

‍

SOÈY - Dear Santa

From the depths of his new EP, Òrìnlábí, SOÈY dropped a powerful single “Dear Santa.” Carried by heartfelt prayers, the call of hooting birds, and an unmistakable sense of solemnity, “Dear Santa” exists at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Its rhythm and atmosphere draw from Yoruba authenticity and belief systems, speaking to the realities of contemporary life—the persistence, stubbornness, survival instinct, and relentless hustle required to keep moving forward. In his words, “Dear Santa means Dear God to me… ‘the one who gives’ I wrote Dear Santa, trying to connect to GOD in my own simplest way…”. And in his deepest prayers, he sings out ‘Father Kérésìmesì please’, which means ‘please Dear Santa’ and, alternatively, ‘Dear God’. So check out “Dear Santa”

Jaguar Boys - Life Melody

Jaguar Boys, are a twin musical duo, with a love for high-energy Afrobeat sounds, and are the original creators/cultural pioneers of the Jaguar Dance and Magic Legwork, two styles that have reshaped street dance and youth culture in Africa. Jaguar Boys are back with a clean new track called “Life Melody”, and the vibes are on a hundred. “Life Melody” is a song that’s both gentle and energetic. It’s about choosing joy and happiness every chance you get. Life Melody commands you to spread joy, to feel the rhythm, and to live in the music.

‍

Aguero Banks, Evado - Asawana

Aguero Banks is joined by Evado on his latest drill/Hip-hop track; “Asawana”. Asawana is smooth rap music, the passionate kind, and every emotion, every lyric is felt. It is intentional, strong, and filled with a bass that would fill you up for days. Done fully in Igbo, it eases into your ears smoothly. Where Aguero Banks starts with thick and fierce vocals,

Evado comes in with a different energy, a smooth glide starting first with a song-rap style, and then sliding fully into rap. Check out “Asawana” today!

AnaYor, Fimi:  Gimme that

Afrobeats meets Hip-hop in the flyest way on AnaYor’s new music “Gimme that”, featuring the trailblazing Nigerian rapper, songwriter and artiste; Fimi. AnaYor is a creative rapper whose MO is embracing his past and learning to live with it. His latest track “Gimme that” just gets you going. He takes on the first verse, with an unrivaled level of aura, an AfroHip-hop flair that just draws you straight in. Then he passes the mic to the feisty female rapper Fimi.

With her sassy, confident energy Fimi pulls us into a new bandwidth,  dropping the music into the spirit of the Nigerian, early 00s alternative/hiphop style, with a modern twist. Whatever you do, make sure to check out “Gimme that”; it’s sexy, clean, and will certainly make you hit repeat.

Yedika - Dey with me

In the final weeks of September, Yedika, a hot new Afrobeats artiste, dropped his new track  “Dey with me”, our favourite piece from his latest EP; ‘Motion’. Yedika’s voice is a sweet angelic, serenade. A unique, refreshing sound in the Afrobeats world. “Dey with me”  is a gentle, soft yet passionately intense love song. It’s the kind of music that makes love feel sweet, like something you want to fall inside, no safety nets in tow. His voice flows with an ease that makes you want to hear more from him. So if you’re a lover of love and beautiful music, Yedika’s “Dey with me” is a great place to start!
