CiDAR Press x The Vibe Machine: 1da Banton

There is something about the way 1da Banton approaches music that makes a son feel less like a performance and more like an invitation to have a good time.

On is latest single “Won Da,” featuring Seyi Vibez, that instinct meets an infectious pull of groovy percussion, melodic ease, and two artists bringing their distinct styles to the same track.

So far the record keeps finding its audience without losing sight of what it was made for: the simple, unfiltered joy of good music.

For 1da Banton, it always comes back to the feeling. Whether it’s the drums that first catch his attention or the melodies that give a song its soul, his process begins with what moves him. And with “Won Da,” there is a story behind how that feeling took shape, how Seyi Vibez came into the picture, and what happened next; the banger we have today.

Naturally, CiDAR Press sits down with 1da Banton to get into the making of “Won Da” to uncover the creative instinct, decisions, and chemistry behind the music. Let’s dive in!

‍

CiDAR PRESS: Who is 1da Banton and how would you describe your music and the sound you’ve built for yourself over the years?

1da Banton: 1da Banton is vibe machine, born and bred in the southern part of Nigeria, the one who tells stories with his music, with an intention to spread positivity, good vibes and healing to whosoever gets in contact with his music. What I’ve been widely known to deliver with my music over the years, are original African melodies and rhythms with a touch of dancehall as a rasta that I am..

‍

CiDAR PRESS:  Describe the vibe  of Won da in 3 words.

‍

1da Banton: Get turnt Up.

‍

CiDAR PRESS: The energy on Won Da is soft yet electrifying, the rhythm is addictive, the vocals are smooth and there’s a gentle tone and ease in your delivery. How did you match your relaxed energy with the hype and intensity of the music so well?

‍

1da Banton:  Like I’ve said earlier, my go to in music is the melodies and a deep feel before anything else, so all I did was match up that vibe the bouncy and highly groovy beat that won da is.

CiDAR PRESS: How did Seyi Vibez come into the picture? What did you like about this collaboration that made it feel like the right fit for this song, what made you feel that his sound would fit the world you had created with Won Da

‍

1da Banton: Honestly, it was my producer, (rugged) that first saw the vision on having Seyi Vibez on the song. So after I had done my verse and chorus,  I listened again then I got in tune with the idea and followed through.

‍

CiDAR PRESS: You’ve crossed the million-stream mark with Won Da. You’re the kind of artist that can best be described as a silent killer, quietly making your moves and letting the music speak for itself. So how do you balance needing to put yourself out there and enjoying moving in silence, staying true to that quiet approach while also putting yourself and your music in front of a bigger audience?

‍

1da Banton:  honestly I just do me at all times, I try not to let my me self get between the music, because I’m a really laid back homie that just wants to be in the studio making music and having a good time, and of course there has to be a balance, so from time to time you’d catch outside vibing and connecting because it’s important.

‍

CiDAR PRESS: At what point did you realize the beat had the potential to become Won Da? Was the melody something you already had in mind, or did it naturally come together once you got into the studio?

‍

1da Banton:  The drums got my attention first. I’m a huge fan of groovy percussions.

‍

CiDAR PRESS: What reactions do you hope Won da brings? What do you want people to take out of this feisty jam?

1da Banton: Anytime the tune comes on, I just want people to have a good time dancing or doing whatever with it, basically having a ball as I did while making the song.

‍

CiDAR PRESS: Are there any more exciting projects for us to look forward to in the future?

‍

1da Banton: Most definitely, I’m always into something, more music, more love.
