Monthly music playlist:

“October and the last seasons”

October is on the cusp of its end, standing right at the door and waving its goodbye to us, and with just one month left standing between us and the end of the year, we think it's only right to give it a proper send-off.

And today’s grand theme for this is: Main Character Music.

This playlist you can trust has all of that feeling in its full glory. From a mental breakdown of a quarter-life crisis

to feeling like you've won the lottery in life

To starring in your own rom-com, facing the pangs of love, mistakes and a little spritz of miscommunication.

This music will have you seeing the fireflies in your room and growing butterflies in your belly.

From sparks of joy and confidence to the blows of self-reflection: our main character playlist has it all, and what better way to say goodbye to October than by capturing the full-fledged mess of human existence!

Babydoll: Jamie Miller ft Antony Cipriano

Starting off strong, we have the trending, hot new single “Babydoll” by the Welsch singer Jamie Miller

featuring the famous Off Campus heartthrob

*This is for the Logan girlies.*

 Anthony Cipriano.

Originally a standalone single, Jamie Miller released his remix with Antony Cipriano sometime in September, and this remix has taken fans by a storm. The song features the most talented yearning, passion-pitching vocal heaven in a total time of less than 3 minutes. It is a classic case of when the theatre kids remember they have that music dawg in them.

Got that dawg in me

This one-direction-esque love song is all about wearing your heart on your sleeve. It's saying I want to be loved, I want all that wreckage, and I know that to put myself out there is to take the largest heartbreak on a silver platter, but if my heart is to be broken, I wouldn't want it to be anyone but you. And in simple terms: I love you so much I'm not afraid to be wrecked by you.

So if you're a true yearner and a true daydreamer, this song is home for you. The harmonies are off the charts. The vocals are a 10 and the music brings that sickly sweet feeling of the pop music of your childhood. So get in your feelings and get ready to be joyfully wrecked by “Babydoll”

Burna boy: Sittin' top of the world

Since we’ve talked about love and devotion, let’s talk about feeling like a million bucks. For this one, Burna has us covered. “Sitting on Top of the World" by Burna Boy is a track that's designed to sound exactly like what it feels like to achieve a massive level of success you've been dreaming of. It captures that satisfying feeling of success, like sitting on top of the world, looking back and knowing it’s your time to shine. As Burna reminds you, “Go ahead, it's your time, baby."

You are floored with a growing realization that it is in fact your season of greatness, that your hard work has paid off and now you can enjoy it. Adding a little sweetness to the music, he dons the track in true 90s fashion, featuring a sample of Brandy’s vocals to sweetly capture the feeling of “Sitting on top of the World”. Burna makes us feel suave, black and proud. This song will remind you that you are made to shine!

‍

All eyes on me: Niniola

“All eyes on me, when I enter the party”

‍Honestly enough is said with that line alone. If Burna gives us assurance, this artist gives us full-blown confidence.

Niniola has this special way of making the girls remember exactly who they are. There is nothing subtle about the energy here, it is loud, it is big and it is evident. There is a sauce that you just don't buy or fabricate, you just got it and Nini lets us know she has it.

“All eyes on me” is sung with the confident swagger that comes with being a Nigerian woman, never beating the allegations of coming dressed to kill and looking your best everywhere.

As she relays won gbe, won gba, there's something in you that agrees that true true they're not ready for you. Niniola reminds us that we are stunners that know how to work the room. So if this is you, en route to the function, needing a reminder that you are that girl in every room, “All eyes on Me” sells you that experience for free.

‍

Pitakwa Girls Riddim:

Honestly, there’s nothing sweeter than feeling confident and sexy in your own skin, and when an artist not only understands that but embellishes that feeling in a way it deserves to be felt, it is worthy of recognition.

Kemuel gives us sick FOMO with his hot and sexy track, “Pitakwa Girls Riddim", as he puts his Port Harcourt girls on the centre stage with this one. “Pitakwa Girls Riddim” is the coolest homage ever, and if you’re a Port Harcourt girl, what a dream it is to be you.

Kemuel paints you like a star on a canvas. Singing sweet things, ‘wey go make your head swell’. The song lives up to every part of its name and will have you ‘feeling hotter than smoke’. So this main character's dream might be a niche one, but it’s a lovely reminder for Port Harcourt girls to remember just how beautiful they are and in the same breath makes every Nigerian girl feel confident, sexy and beautiful. If you’re a Port Harcourt girl, get ready to snatch this one up and make it your new anthem!

The Cure: Olivia Rodrigo

Sometimes Being a main character isn’t always about feeling confident, sometimes it’s about self realization, facing the mess that we are, and learning through it. Olivia Rodrigo, our indie pop princess does it best on her album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love'.girl so in love’. She particularly drives home the feeling of inadequacy even in love with her song; “The cure”

When she screams out “Baby I’m unraveled”, she is stretching out for help, saying look at me, I am open, I am pulling, and when she  follows up with “Why can't you come stitch me up?” she is asking why he can’t mend the parts of her that are fragile and pulling. Olivia shares this pang of longing, mixed with a painful realisation that no one can fully fix us up. That love is not a cure all medicine, and that there are some places it cannot reach like the deepest, dark, self-sabotaging compartments of our mind. It is a painful realisation that even faced with love, we have to battle ourselves, and our long awaited prince charming or princess that comes to save us from ourselves is a myth. So get a taste of the human mess and allow yourself to unravel in realisation, with “The cure”

Akuvi: Diamonds

Afro soul artist blending R&B, neo soul and Afrobeats into a sound that pairs vulnerability with power. Known for her commanding live performances, she has toured across Africa and Europe and shared stages with artists such as Stonebwoy and Shenseea. Today we recommend her smooth yet electrifying Afrosoul/AfroR&B jam “Diamonds”. "Diamonds" was released in 2024 but found a new home on the closing track for her latest EP in 2026, bringing it back in style.

She's known for bringing fans on stage to have their main character moment and dance or vibe with her on the song, and recently, a particular fan went viral for his smooth, clean and gentlemanly handling of the track.

On paper, the dancer may have looked the part but was the complete opposite of the “shy” the song teases, not to be. He came in clean, with a quiet confidence and aura, the kind that reminds us that looks can be deceiving and 'reserved' does not mean 'shy'. His smooth operator dance gained a lot of love from fans who dubbed him “white chocolate” and other terms of endearment. Completely smooth and respectful with it, he was the opposite of shy and captured the essence of the music.

Akuvi gave him his moment and he made it that, completely engraving the song in memory. The vocals, the bounce, it feels like 2015/2016 all over again with Akuvi’s “Diamonds”. So get up on your stage like the famous white chocolate and get your main character whining on with “Diamonds”

Well that’s all the magic we have today and we hope that this main character music, from love to reflection, hits you heart and stays in it. Until next time, xoxo
